Reveries | Reveries weigh less than dreams

Catch their latest Pop Blooms & Stars installation at Domaine Vranken - Pommery in Reims, home of world renowned champagne and incorporate some wine tasting on your journey to boot!
Tsai & Yoshikawa have created a newly commissioned installation of six vibrant and intricate mixed media light sculptures for Experience #16 – 2022 REVERIES, at Vranken Pommery domain home of world renowned champagne. The daydreams, theme chosen by Nathalie Vranken and Fabrice Bousteau echoes the core of Studio Tsai & Yoshikawa’s artistic practice’s playful approach to colour and form.
Upon descending 116 steps of the monumental 19th Century ‘The Grand Escalier’, fantastical sculptures entice guests like inquisitive eyes staring out of the darkness suspended over the subterranean world of the Domaine Pommery cellar and it’s singular fluted entrance. Punctuating the steps bursts of colour pop against the entrance signalling, the departure of the outside world and a metamorphosis into the dreamlike heart of champagne creation.
At the genesis of their careers in 2005 Hsiao-Chi Tsai and Kimiya Yoshikawa were winners of Pommery Pop bottle design in one of their very first artistic collaborations whilst studying at Royal College of Art in their respective Mixed-Media Textiles and Sculpture Masters.
POP BLOOMS & STARS SERIES
The installation at Pommery is part of their Pop Blooms and Stars series, the work is influenced by the big bang theory – the moment when life begins and otherworldly alchemy is at work. The sculptures both formally allude to the cosmological and the botanical in a truly inventive way. Lit from within, and with dramatic directional lights, the colours and textures of the material radiate, casting a tangle of shadows that bring these sculptures to life like tantalising exotic flowers or deep sea creatures. The bright and lively works in modern materials starkly contrast the organic aged chalk walls of the Gallo-Roman cellars, furthering the illusion of having stepped into the artists' imaginations.
